Microsoft's goal for 2012 is to make Windows Phone a solid third platform offering a viable alternative to iOS and Android. Things are already starting to look good as Windows Phone Division head Andrew Lees believes an important goal has been met: Microsoft became credible again in the phone market. Good things are already happening in Windows Phone-land and, according to Lees, this is just the beginning. Expect dual-core and LTE-enabled phones too! Current Windows Phones are all single-core "but I suspect that they will be faster in usage than any dual-core phone that you put against it, and that?s the point," said Lees. There will be dual-core Windows Phones around the time the software will be able to take advantage of the processing power offered by the new chips.
Redmond wants to approach LTE differently. Initial phones that support the network standard were both huge in size and battery usage. Lees thinks "it?s possible to do it in a way that is far more efficient, and that?s what we will be doing".
