Motorola Edison Tipped By Webtop Code

Hidden within the Webtop software for the new Motorola Bionic lies a bit of code that contains a list of Motorola hardware with Webtop compatibility. It uses device code names instead of their retail monikers, but it doesn't take much time to figure out that the Olympus, Sunfire, and Targa (in case you've forgotten) are the Atrix, Photon, and Bionic. Beyond those phones though, there are two other entries in the list that could be tipping us off to the existence of additional Webtop-compatible Motorola Androids.

First off in the list, right after the Olympus, is "Common". This is all speculation at this point, but there's talk that Common is just a placeholder or an entry referring to any Webtop-using smartphone. That definitely makes sense, but just makes us all the more aware of how surreal some phone names are getting ? even the Motorola Default or Motorola Placeholder might give us a few moment's pause before realizing the intent behind them.

The other new name is one that really sounds like an actual handset: the Motorola Edison. The name itself doesn't evoke that of any Motorola Android we're familiar with (like Sunfire and Photon are sort-of related), so it could any of several Motorolas on the horizon: the Atrix-refresh for AT&T LTE, maybe even the Droid RAZR that just crossed our path?

HTC Hero S Tipped as HTC Kingdom for US Cellular

Thanks to some early pics of the hardware, we've known about the HTC Kingdom since this past spring. While at first there was some confusion as to whether the phone might be a new Thunderbolt, or possibly a carrier-branded version of the EVO 3D, time revealed more and more specs until we were able to get a more solid understanding of the handset. More recently, we've heard that the Kingdom would be landing on Alltel as the HTC Acquire, and at Sprint as the EVO Design 4G. Now we can add one more name to that list, as it appears the Kingdom will also be coming to US Cellular as the HTC Hero S.

A custom gel case for the phone has already appeared at online retailers, where we can see under its compatibility listing that it's built for the A(c)quire, EVO Design 4G, and the Hero S; it's not too big of a jump to conclude those three are all the same hardware. We've also heard the phone referred to before as the Hero 4G, so it all makes sense. It's not mentioned explicitly here, but we have it on good authority that the Hero S is destined for US Cellular.

The Kingdom (no matter what it's called) should show with a 1.2GHz single-core Snapdragon, 768MB of RAM, a four-inch qHD screen, and a five-megapixel rear camera with VGA front-facer. It may not be the new dual-core-hotness, but those are some totally solid specs, so long as you don't plan on pushing your phone too, too hard.

BlackBerry Curve 9360 Tipped for T-Mobile Prepaid

For its second shot at product launches last month, RIM announced its new Curve models, the 9350, 9360, and 9370. Of those three, the 9360 is bound for T-Mobile in the US, and we've already seen a leak suggesting the smartphone could arrive on September 14. What we haven't heard is a definitive price, nor news about the handset as anything but a standard on-contract model. Both those points are addressed in a new leak, showing the Curve 9360 getting ready for T-Mobile prepaid service.

According to this document, you'll be able to snag a 9360 for just shy of $230. Considering the Bold 9900 fetches $300 on-contract, that sounds like a heck of a bargain in comparison. Granted, the Curve is only powered by an 800MHz processor, but you still have the new BlackBerry OS 7 to enjoy.

We still can't be sure how an on-contract Curve 9360 will be priced for T-Mobile, but it's going to have to be significantly below $230 ? anything in the $50 to $150 range would make sense. If the rumored date we've heard holds out, we should know in a week.
