Verizon Selling $100 Pantech Breakout LTE Android September 22

You are in an Android Post

We've been keeping our eye on the Pantech Breakout for a little while now, expecting it to launch as the first budget-priced Android using Verizon's high-speed LTE 4G network. Last week we heard that the phone would likely be released this week, on Thursday, September 22. With just a few days to spare, Verizon has finally announced the Breakout, confirming the September 22 launch rumor, and giving the phone a $100 on-contract price tag.

You may not be swayed by the Pantech brand name alone, but look past that to the Breakout's hardware, and you'll find some decent specs for what's becoming a mid-range Android configuration. The phone has a single-core 1GHz processor, four-inch WVGA screen, and five-megapixel rear and VGA front-facing cameras. Pantech includes an 8GB microSD card for storage, and will bring the phone to market running Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

Verizon's confirmed one rumored ability we were hoping the Breakout would get: WiFi hotspot support for connecting up to 10 devices. Of course, you probably won't be using close to that many at once, but you have the feature there when you need it.

Pantech just started introducing Android phones to North America earlier this year with the Crossover on AT&T. Any opinions on how its efforts are shaping up so far? Would you buy a Pantech Android over an HTC or Motorola?

Verizon's Upcoming Pantech Breakout LTE Spotted In The Wild

You are in an Android Post

If you feel the phone pictured above shamelessly resembles the device rendered two weeks ago as the upcoming Verizon Pantech Breakout LTE, you're definitely right. The phone has appeared in real-life shots and you've got to admit it's looking good.

The phone is 4G-capable and said to have a four-inch WVGA screen, 1GHz single-core processor, 512MB of RAM, five-megapixel camera, as well as a front-facing webcam. It will have the ability of reportedly turning into a mobile hotspot for up to 10 devices simultaneously over LTE. Expect to see some official wording about the phone in around a week's time. Who'll get one?
