Samsung Focus S Passes FCC, Mango a Week Away & Dell Leaving?

In today?s show we begin by talking about the recent confirmation we received from the Windows Phone blog regarding Mango and it?s release date within either next week or the following. We also go through the Samsung Focus S and how it already received FCC approval. We talk about the reasons why Windows Phone 7 doesn?t support dual-core processors, and why that?s still not an issue any of us should worry about. We breeze through Windows 8 and how it seems to support more than the Metro UI with a phone call feature, and details on when we might get the WhatsApp messenger many of us have been waiting for. We end the Good section by going through some recent awards that Windows Phone 7 has received thanks to its innovative design.

AT&T Samsung Focus S Passes FCC

AT&T jumped the gun just a little bit by making its upcoming Windows Phone Mango line-up public this week, probably to further emphasize on it being the "premier" carrier for the Redmond-platform-powered phones. Among the phones (HTC Titan and Focus Flash), there's the Samsung Focus S, which just passed FCC.

The phone that got Commission clearance is the SGH-i937, most probably the Samsung Focus S. Given the recently made official Samsung naming convention, expect the Focus S to be a flagship as "S" stands for Super Smart, at the top of all models, a letter only highest-end flagship phones will wear.

That being said, expect to see a Super AMOLED Plus display that looks gorgeous on the Galaxy S II, premium materials, a general outer aspect that somewhat resembles the Android-powered Galaxy S II and, of course, Windows Phone Mango, whenever that will be made official this fall.

Official specs made public by AT&T talk about a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, 1.4GHz processor, radio capable of 4G speeds, a front facing 1.3-megapixel and a rear facing eight-megapixel camera, and a very thin form factor, measuring only 8.55 millimeters.

Samsung SGH-i708 Passes FCC, Omnia 7 Refresh With Front-Facer

You are in an Android Post

No, you are not looking at the Samsung Omnia 7 in the images above, even though you might be easily fooled by the exact same outer aspect of the phone. It's the Samsung SGH-i708, a refresh to the Samsung Omnia 7 and it will most probably run Windows Phone Mango.

Aside from the front-facing webcam on the front-top left, there is close to no difference between the refresh and the initial version. Of course, the form factor was a popular one, so why change it (even though some would argue otherwise)? There's a slight difference on the bottom of the phone where you can see a cut-out while as well as a fourth hardware button on the left side of the device which looks like a toggle. Oh, and the Windows Phone logo is the old one but we're sure the FCC has an older prototype and the final product will be fully polished.
