Will The Samsung Galaxy Nexus Be A Best Buy Exclusive?

You are in an Android Post

The worst-kept secret in smartphones today continues to show up in news everywhere, still yet-to-be-officially-announced. Samsung's Nexus Prime / Galaxy Nexus has just made a new appearance, displayed in Best Buy's Cellebrite system.

Although we expect the smartphone to arrive on Verizon as the Galaxy Nexus, you can still see the Nexus Prime code name being used even this late in the game. The leaked screenshot from Verizon's computers, at least ? the one we looked at earlier today - has the phone as the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

While this appearance doesn't really tell us much new about the phone, it raises an interesting question about how the handset will be sold. After all, the Nexus S was a Best Buy exclusive; could this next iteration follow-suit as an exclusive for the retailer? We think it's too early to say, but there are some reasons why it seems unlikely. Without a Galaxy S II on-hand, Verizon needs a real powerhouse to attract buyers. While there are models like the Droid RAZR in the wings, the Galaxy Nexus has the potential to be huge for the carrier; why limit sales by locking them to Best Buy stores? Granted, the carrier might not have much of a say in things; we hope to learn for sure what's going on after Samsung's event scheduled for next week.

Samsung Sells $2-Galaxy S II Next To Apple Store In Sydney

You are in an Android Post

Apple is going to make its iPhone 4S available in stores two days from now, on October 14. Pre-orders sold well and according to Apple numbers, more than 1 million units were purchased in the first 24 hours.

The battle between Apple and Samsung has moved back to the market after lots of episodes in various courts around the world. According to reports, Samsung has set up a store just next to Apple's own store in Sydney. The temporary shop offers the flagship Galaxy S II for just $2 unlocked and without a contract for the first 10 people in line each day. The line is already longer than the one waiting for Apple's next phone to be available. Competition at its finest?...

Update: Our reader Haze points out in the comments that those people not lucky enough to be among the first ten will still be able to buy the phones at a hugely discounted price.

T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II, HTC Amaze 4G Available Online

You are in an Android Post

If you've been waiting for either one of these two phones, you should be happy to find out that both the Samsung Galaxy S II and the HTC Amaze 4G are now available on T-Mobile's website.

The T-Mobile Galaxy S II packs a 4.52-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen, HSPA+ capability, but won't be powered by Samsung's own Exynos processor but will use a Qualcomm chip APQ8060 clocking at 1.5GHz. It goes for $229.99 with a two-year contract.

The HTC Amaze 4G packs a similar 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, has NFC support, and a 4.3-inch qHD display which packs more pixels than the Galaxy S II. Both the white and black versions go for $259.99 with a new, two-year contract.

Sprint Showdown: Samsung Epic Touch 4G vs. Motorola Photon 4G

You are in an Android Post

Sprint currently has two powerful, high-end Android phones available for sale at the $199 price point: the Epic Touch 4G (essentially a Galaxy S II but with a larger display) and the Motorola Photon 4G. Both devices offer dual-core CPUs with a gigabyte of RAM, plus WiMax 4G connectivity on Sprint. The display on the Photon 4G is higher resolution with 960x540 pixels, but the Super AMOLED Plus display of the Epic 4G Touch is a sight to behold, thanks to fantastic contrast.
In this video, we compare the hardware and software of the Epic Touch 4G and the Photon 4G, plus compare web browsing speed, gaming performance, boot up times, and much more. Stick around towards the end of the video where we compare HD video recording performance. comp5
Beyond the displays, the rest of the specs are quite similar. As with most Motorola high-end smartphones, the Photon 4G does HDMI out without a special adapter. comp2

Samsung Galaxy S III Leak Suggests 1.8GHz CPU, 2GB RAM

You are in an Android Post

The Samsung Galaxy S II continues to roll-out, with pre-orders for the smartphone on T-Mobile kicking-off today. As it does so, it's likely work is already well underway on its successor, the Galaxy S III. We've been fielding rumors of this phone for months now, going all the way back to April. Most recently, we've heard some really impressive specs suggested for the handset, including a quad-core 2GHz processor and 1.5GB of RAM. Then again, the source behind that info was a bit suspect, and some of the details, like 1280 x 1024 non-widescreen display, sounded just nutty. A new leak suggests some very different specs for the S III, and these sound a little more plausible.

This slide shows the evolution of the Galaxy S series, leading up to the future S III. Here, the phone is depicted as only a dual-core model, running at 1.8GHz with an Exynos chip. On the other hand, it would have more RAM than earlier rumors suggested, with a full 2GB. The resolution of its 4.6-inch Super AMOLED Plus display is given only as "HD", but it's likely we're talking about a 720p component. Also look for a 12-megapixel main camera.

Some other details weren't provided on the slide, but accompany the rumor nonetheless. They say the S III would have LTE and NFC support, retain four hardware Android buttons despite running Ice Cream Sandwich, and be even slimmer than the Galaxy S II. Assuming this information checks out (and some inconsistency in the image suggests it might not), we could be looking at one capable heir to the Galaxy S name.

Samsung Galaxy WiFi 3.6 Hits UK Market In November

You are in an Android Post

Remember last month when we caught a glimpse of what looked like Samsung's take on the iPod touch, a Galaxy-series Android that had no cellular radio, using WiFi alone to get online? That was the Galaxy S WiFi 3.6, and Samsung's just revealed its plans for introducing the handset, along with a larger five-inch version.

This announcement drops the "S", calling the pair the Galaxy WiFi 3.6 and Galaxy WiFi 5.0. Obviously, like the iPod touch, these devices are capable of far more than just media playback, but that doesn't keep Samsung from playing-up the pair's audio performance, including "SoundAlive" software to act as kind of real-time dynamic EQ.

Both Galaxy WiFis will have 1GHz Texas Instruments processors, and come with Android Gingerbread. The only notable difference between the pair is their measurements, whether you want something pocket-sized or would like to flirt with a handset starting to encroach on tablet territory.

The Galaxy WiFi 5.0 is already available to customers in the UK, and the Galaxy WiFi 3.6 will be joining it next month. Prices for an 8GB 5.0 start at what works out to about $300, or $340 for the 16GB. The WiFi 3.6 will be more like $230 for 8GB and $265 for 16GB.

Samsung Galaxy W for T-Mobile: First Press Shots

You are in an Android Post

Here's the SGH-T679 headed to T-Mobile, codenamed Ancora and better known internationally as the Samsung Galaxy W. At a likely price point of $99, the HSPA+-capable Ancora seems to bring a lot to the table, featuring a 1.4GHz single-core processor, 3.7-inch WVGA screen, and five-megapixel camera -- a very solid mid-ranger.

One of the five handsets tipped by TmoNews to launch on November 2nd (alongside the HTC Radar and Doubleplay, myTouch and myTouch Q from LG), T-Mobile's version of the Samsung Galaxy W once again Americanizes the button row by swapping in the mostly-unused Search key. And with Samsung and Apple now embroiled in a series of global lawsuits, we doubt that we'll be seeing any central home buttons from Korea anytime soon.

Update: TmoNews has a name for this one: Samsung Exhibit II 4G.

Samsung Holding Unpacked Event At Next Month's CTIA

You are in a Smartphone News Post

Samsung has already unveiled the Galaxy Note at the beginning of this month in Berlin, with the occasion of IFA but the company is preparing for another Unpacked event, this time at October's CTIA Enterprise and Applications show in San Diego.

What could Samsung unveil at the event? Well, it could be an American launch for the Galaxy Note or Samsung might as well uncover the Nexus Prime (or Galaxy Nexus as it is being often referred to). It also could be an official unveiling of the Focus S and/or the Focus Flash Windows Phones but we'll make sure to let you know more as we find out.

Android 2.3.5 ROM for Samsung Galaxy S II Leaks

You are in an Android Post

The Samsung Galaxy S II is still THE Android phone of the moment (at least until one of those HD screen-enabled beasts are released) and the manufacturer is trying to maintain the phone up to date as much as possible.

The latest leak represents Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread for the Samsung Galaxy S II. The firmware version is I9100XXKI3, which translates to European version 3, dated September 15. For those of you who can't wait for the update to hit your devices via official channels, head over to the source link and grab the update (of course, acknowledging the risks involved).

AT&T Samsung Infuse 4G Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread ROM Leaked

You are in an Android Post

The Samsung-made AT&T Infuse 4G was supposed to get its Gingerbread treat since mid-August but so far there was only word of a maintenance update -- rumored to be a pre-Gingerbread update.

An Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread ROM has been leaked for the device and it is build I997UCKI4. It might be a good indication that the official update is not far out but if you just can't wait for it to be pushed to your phone, give the leak a try (but insert unofficial ROM update warning here).

Samsung Focus S Passes FCC, Mango a Week Away & Dell Leaving?

You are in a Windows Phone Post

In today?s show we begin by talking about the recent confirmation we received from the Windows Phone blog regarding Mango and it?s release date within either next week or the following. We also go through the Samsung Focus S and how it already received FCC approval. We talk about the reasons why Windows Phone 7 doesn?t support dual-core processors, and why that?s still not an issue any of us should worry about. We breeze through Windows 8 and how it seems to support more than the Metro UI with a phone call feature, and details on when we might get the WhatsApp messenger many of us have been waiting for. We end the Good section by going through some recent awards that Windows Phone 7 has received thanks to its innovative design.

In the bad section we cover the sad news about Dell probably dropping Windows Phone 7 in the future, and why we think the rumors hold water.

All this and more after the break.

Samsung Galaxy Note Expected Late November In the U.K.

Our friends over at Clove just updated on the Samsung Galaxy Note availability: it looks like the smartphone (if that's what you call this beast) will be in stock late November. The price is not yet confirmed but is believed to be around the pre-order advertised price of ?500 ($780) unlocked.

Scoring 3,624 in Quadrant, the Galaxy Note, which we met in person at the iFA, was only rumored to land in the U.K. at the beginning of next year.

With a 5.3-inch Super AMOLED HD screen of 800 x 1280 resolution, the Galaxy Note features a 1.4GHz dual-core Exynos processor, 16 GB Internal Storage, eight-megapixel main camera, two-megapixel webcam plus the usual, and a stylus...

Samsung Galaxy S Glide 1.2GHz QWERTY Slider Coming To Canada

You are in an Android Post

This past summer, while we awaited news form US carriers on their Samsung Galaxy S II offerings, images of a QWERTY slider surfaced alongside rumors that AT&T would introduce the model as its keyboard-enabled GS2. Clearly, that has not come to pass, but the hardware is still kicking around, and now looks like it will be arriving in Canada as the Galaxy S Glide.

The Glide's hardware is up there at a comparable level to the GS2's, including a dual-core 1.2GHz processor and eight-megapixel camera (1.2MP front-facer). The screen is a smidge smaller on the Glide, measuring-in at only 4 inches, and we're told it will be a Super AMOLED display. We would have expected it to use Super AMOLED Plus technology, as the GS2, but the source's failure to mention "plus" may have just been an oversight.

Of course, to have a hardware keyboard, the Glide doesn't end up looking as slender as the GS2. That trade-off's hardly exclusive to this device line, though, and it's nice for users to at least have the option open. Look for the Galaxy S Glide to find a home at Rogers near the end of 2011.

Samsung SHV-E120L Specs Leaked, 4.7-Inch HD Screen In

You are in an Android Post

The Samsung SHV-E120L first caught our eye when results popped up on NenaMark. At that time, we only knew that it was powered by a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU, Adreno 220 GPU and it hat a WXGA 768 x 1280 screen running Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread. Now the full specs are in, as you can see above.

The missing specs reveal an eight-megapixel main camera, two-megapixel webcam, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of Internal Memory, LTE-capable radio, WiFi b/g/n, NFC, GPS, Bluetooth 3.0 and an 1,850mAh battery. Looks like it will be directly competing with the LG LU6200 that sports roughly the same internals, with less internal storage and a slightly smaller screen.

Samsung Claims Apple Is Infringing Seven Patents In Australia

You are in an Android Post

It's getting more and more difficult to keep track of all the lawsuits, claims and accusations between these two. Legal battles are ongoing in several regions, from Japan to the U.K. and Australia has just been added to the list.

Samsung claims that Apple is infringing on seven of its patents with the iPhone and the iPad. If the court finds the claims real and rules in favor of the Korean company, Samsung could overturn a previous ruling banning its Galaxy Tab. Even more, in such a scenario, Apple's patents could be invalidated (these refer to phones too) and Samsung would win back the Australian market (at least on the legal side).

Bell Will Offer The White Samsung Galaxy S II 4G Before Holidays

You are in an Android Post

Canada's Bell has released the Samsung Galaxy S II on July 21 and, even though the phone was only available in its black flavor, it was reportedly selling great. How great? Enough for the carrier to consider another variant, this time in a pale shade.

According to recent reports, the carrier is planning on adding the white version of the Samsung Galaxy S II to its line-up. There are no details of exact availability, except for "way before the holiday rush". Given the black variant goes for $149.99 on a three-year contract, we expect the white one to cost the same amount of cash.

Telus 4G Samsung Galaxy S II X Coming Soon

You are in an Android Post

4G Samsung Galaxy S II X is a strange name but you might recognize it as the once referred to Samsung Hercules. Telus has put a "coming soon" tag on the phone which is now online over at the carrier's website.

There's no exact release date shows on the page except for the "coming soon" text and there is no pricing revealed either. The specs on the other hand are there and they match with previous ones mentioned: 1.5Ghz dual-core CPU, 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus WVGA display, WiFi with hotspot, eight-megapixel camera with full HD video recording capability, two-megapixel front facing webcam, and Android 2.3 Gingerbread on board.
