Verizon Leak Prices Breakout, Confirms Stratosphere, Rhyme

You are in an Android Post

Pantech's Breakout has been looking like a decently-equipped Android that could let Verizon subscribers check out LTE without paying the premium price most Verizon LTE smartphones demand. Well, that's what we had been assuming, at least, since we hadn't gotten any real indication of what the carrier had in mind so far as a launch price. Now that info's leaked out, and it's well within the "affordable" range.

According to the docs, a full-price Pantech Breakout will only set you back around $360. Sign on for two years of service, and you'll walk out the door with one for just $150; that's not unreasonable for a 1GHz Android like the Breakout even without considering its LTE connectivity.

As for the HTC Rhyme and the Samsung Stratosphere, this leak confirms their presence in Verizon's database, but doesn't really give us any new information on the pair. The Rhyme is a 1GHz Android we used to know as the Bliss (the phone designed for women), and will arrive with HTC's latest Sense 3.5. Samsung's Stratosphere is another LTE handset like the Breakout, but a QWERTY slider this time; sadly, most of its specs are still unknown to us. Look for all three smartphones to show up at Verizon in the near future.

HTC Confirms Windows Phone Internet Sharing; How Will It Arrive?

You are in a Windows Phone Post

One of Mango's many new features went largely unnoticed for the operating system's beta period, only coming to light about a week ago. That's a shame, because it's one that many WP7 users have been hoping for: internet connection sharing via WiFi hotspot. Now some new information has come out which confirms the feature's presence, but it's not the best news for everyone.

HTC commented on Windows Phone internet sharing, revealing that it will be present in the just-announced HTC Radar and HTC Titan. We wouldn't be surprised if carriers ultimately restrict access to the function, but that's not on HTC's back.

The bad news is how internet sharing will arrive on existing Windows Phone 7 devices: that is to say, not right away. It turns out that the reason no one saw internet sharing earlier in Mango's development is because it really was a last-minute addition. For HTC, at least, that meant that the company was already too far along in preparing updates for its WP7 lineup to go back and add the feature in, along with all the additional testing it would require. It should still be getting here (again, subject to carriers not being jerks), but you'll have to wait until a future update.
