HTC Announces Sensation XE With Beats by Dr. Dre Audio

You are in an Android Post

We knew multimedia-oriented phones are going to come out from the Taiwanese manufacturer once it teamed up with Beats by Dr. Dre and the HTC Sensation XE is the first one the phone maker announces.

The phone is a step up from this year's Sensation. The Sensation XE packs a dual-core 1.5GHz processor, 768MB RAM, 4.3-inch qHD display, eight-megapixel camera with 1080p video recording, VGA front-facer, 8GB/16GB microSD card included and an improved 1730 mAh battery. It runs Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread with HTC Sense 3.0 on top of it.

Running Android 2.3.4 with HTC Sense 3.0 over the top, it will come boxed with either an 8GB or 16GB microSD card. In the box you'll find the in-ear buds Beats by Dr. Dre which, when plugged in, makes the phone switch to the Beats by Dr. Dre profile, offering a great multimedia experience.

The phone will be available in EMEA and Asian-Pacific regions by the end of this month.

HTC Sensation, EVO 3D Get CyanogenMOD 7 Alpha

You are in an Android Post

We know that CyanogenMOD for the HTC Sensation was in the works -- together with the one for the LG Optimus 3D -- and since the Sensation and the EVO 3D share so much in common, the first Alpha has landed and is now available for both Taiwanese devices.

Heading over to the source links below you will land on a thread with description, instructions and feedback for the first Alpha releases of CyanogenMOD dedicated for the HTC Sensation and the EVO 3D. Since it's an Alpha release, there will be plenty of bugs but if that doesn't bother you -- or you just wish to get away from stock -- you can flash by following the instructions outlined in the threads.

HTC Sensation Special Edition To Have Beats, Hardware Upgrades?

HTC showcased its commitment to bringing high-quality to smartphones earlier this month with the announcement of its partnership with Beats by Dr. Dre. We learned that future HTC handsets would be paired up with Beats gear; the HTC Runnymede we just saw some full specs for looks like it will be among the first of those models, including a pair of Beats headphones. The next might be what a leak is calling the HTC Sensation Special Edition 2, bringing some boosted hardware specs along with the Beats audio.

This SE model would supposedly make the leap from a dual-core 1.2GHz SoC to a 1.5GHz setup. The Qualcomm MSM8260 it will use is already present in the current Sensation, so it's not a big change.

The SE claims to have 4GB of internal storage, but is that really an upgrade? The Sensation has 4GB of flash, but only 1GB is usable. If we're talking about 4GB of free space, then that's a nice change, but we have the feeling this might be the same situation as before.

The battery will see an upgrade of its own, presumably to fuel the faster processor, stepping up to 1,730mAh.

The Beats connection includes what's referred to as an "in-ear headset". Nice try Beats, but earbuds are earbuds, no matter how nice they are; if you want to call it a headset, you'll have to connect those buds together. These earbuds will have an inline remote for quickly controlling media playback.

For this package, expect to pay what comes out to around $850.
