HTC Titan Software Review (Video)

You are in a Windows Phone Post

After taking a closer look at the hardware of the mighty HTC Titan, we spend some time, in this video, covering the software of the device. It's the fastest device, in terms of CPU speed, currently on the market, if you want a Windows Phone 7 device. Sitting on top of the latest Mango build of WP7, the Titan is indeed snappy, especially when browsing the web. Windows Phone 7 is normally speedy, so adding another 500MHz worth of processing power enhances daily use in certain areas (like gaming, web, and video), but doesn't make for a dramatic improvement when compared to any other Windows Phone 7 device.
As with other HTC Windows Phone devices, there aren't many HTC-specific enhancements, due to the restrictions of the Windows Phone 7 operating system. You'll find the HTC Hub, plus a few other HTC apps like Watch, Notes, Locations, Photo Enhancer, and so on, many of which are available through a special section of the Marketplace.

Coming up soon we'll have our full review of the HTC Titan!

In this video, we are taking a closer look at the software of the Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch. There is a minor amount of bloatware included, but at least some of it can be uninstalled. The new Motion based activities are useful, and the general UI is very snappy.

The Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch is available from Sprint for $199 with a two year contract.

Software Development Outsourcing Services

Today it won't be an exaggeration to say that IT-department is the one of "must-have" for any modern company which wants to develop and to perform its services on the world market which is impossible to imagine without good promotion and appropriate usage of all modern IT-achievements. But intellectual work of experienced stuff which performs software development services demands a lot of expenses, so there is no wonder why so many companies do not hire their own IT-specialists, but make use of software outsourcing services. In general the word "outsourcing" can be applied to any tasks given from one company to another with an aim to save money and to get the result of high quality, but today the word-combination "software outsourcing services" occur the more and more often.

It is obvious that web development are in high demand among modern companies, even among those which have nothing to do with IT-sphere. That is why outsourcing of web development services can be really the best way out for such companies. After all it is not a secret than in most highly-developed countries web developed services cost a lot, and if you can get software development services of the same quality but at much lower price, then why not save means and get what you need without paying too much? Frankly speaking, this is the main reason why so many companies turn to outsourcing IT services and get what the needful software and other web development services with minimal losses.

For example, if you are interested in mobile application development services then you have a right to choose, whether you would like to pay a large sum of money to web development services in England or you can use IT outsourcing services in India, Ukraine or Russia. To find good specialists which can provide you with mobile application development services should not take you a lot of time, and as a reward your company will achieve its professional goals and save its resources.

Besides cost-effectiveness software outsourcing services have several other advantages. First of all, software development services of this type allows company to concentrate on its main activity without spending extra resources and time on web development services which they can get from the third party. Also when the company is inclined to outsourcing IT services it means that there will be no problems with the staff flexibility, because if there is no need in IT-department then there is no necessity to hire and dismiss personnel. Thus you do not have to spend money and time at creating new work areas, salaries and other social and professional commitments, which makes your company's work much more efficient.

Certainly there are some negative aspects in IT outsourcing services. First of all, it is a risk of information leak. Each company which performs outsourcing IT services guarantees confidentiality, thus this risk is minimal but still it happens to be. Another unpleasant probable situation is a bankruptcy of the chosen company which provides you with software outsourcing services, thus you will have to look for another one and to start all over again. In other words there are pros and cons, so it is up to you to decide whether outsourcing IT services meet your requirements.

Nowadays to find a company which offers software outsourcing services is not a problem. The main task is to turn to really reliable one. The range of such services is very wide - starting from mobile application development services and up to some complicated specific software, so every client has high chances to get what he needs. That is why software development services become more and more popular from year to year, and there are no signs that this tendency will diminish.

Network Management Solutions For Service Desk Software

Monitor the heartbeat of your critical business services.

Many organisations monitor the health of business services using infrastructure management tools. Infrastructure management tools monitor and report on issues with the underlying hardware, software and networks supporting the services required by the business. In addition to management tools, most organisations have implemented service desk software to manage the logging and resolution of issues with the underlying infrastructure. Often the infrastructure management and service desk/technical support groups operate as silo departments. Typically, the systems used by these departments are not tightly coupled because it requires extensive effort and cost to integrate. We believe that it is critical that these groups and systems are fully integrated so that the business benefits from a unified, end-to-end service management approach.

Providing end to end service management means that you need to be in control of all factors that may influence your service. What many organisations tend to overlook are the alerts which are triggered by infrastructure management tools. These alerts can throw your service management planning into chaos.

Defining Infrastructure Alerts

Alerts have a direct impact on your level of service. It is important to measure IT's performance in addressing these alerts and the impact it has on services provided to the organization. Many types of alerts are entered into Incident Management. Since most organisations do not properly identify alerts, they run the risk of not being able to track which incidents were created from management tools and which incidents were created by IT staff or end users. Recognizing the source of the incident will help organize the services that IT provides and ensure that normal day-to-day work does not suffer.

Following are examples of the types of alerts from most management systems:

1. Alerts that require immediate attention.

2. Wake up alerts

3. Awareness alerts

1. Alerts that require immediate attention

These alerts are the most important to your organization. For example, this could be a message saying that your server has gone down, possibly because a fan is not working (for example). If the server runs your organization's critical applications, once identified, all appropriate resources must immediately address the issue.

2. Wake up alerts

Messages from your system to warn you that you need to act on something, which is less important but must be done.

3. Awareness alerts

Messages that just inform you how the systems are doing, what the status is, etc...

Typically, these alerts are managed by different priorities and different SLA's, which will have a different impact on the service of your organization. And managing the service of your organization is something that needs to be supported by your service desk software solution.

Service Desk Software Configuration and Integration with Monitoring Tools

The organization has to ensure that when an alert is generated by the management tool, a ticket is immediately logged in the service desk software solution. The service desk software must be configured so that it is able to recognize the type of messages and automatically assign the ticket to the appropriate group or individual. Service thresholds and service rules can be defined to manage the resolution of the ticket over its life cycle.

Running reports and setting Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) against the alerts and the time to resolve will help you to improve your service instantly and help you keep control of all aspects that impact your service, using one single front end solution which is already there: Your Service Desk

In order to provide end-to-end service management you have to integrate your service desk software with infrastructure management tools. One popular application is Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM). SCOM will be configured to monitor the infrastructure for specific alerts. When a configured alert occurs the 'event' is forwarded to a central SCOM server, where a database is held which includes a history of alerts.

The ease of integration with popular software products has often been a moot subject, however this has now been resolved.

Next to the standard Network Management interface in IncidentMonitor?, Monitor 24-7 has developed an easy to setup, out of the box solution for a robust, bi-directional integration with Microsoft SCOM. The IncidentMonitor? SCOM connector leverages the IncidentMonitor? Network Management subsystem. The IncidentMonitor? SCOM connector and the IncidentMonitor? Network Management subsystem are provided out of the box at no additional cost.

IncidentMonitor? is a comprehensive Service Desk / Help Desk software application which is ITIL compatible and PinkVerfied for 10 ITIL processes. It is available both on-premises (locally installed) and SaaS licensing models which accomodate varying budget and corporate needs.

Some of the Benefits of Software and Data As a Service

What the heck is a web service, anyway?

Well, it's a service brought to you over the Internet, dummy. One can split web services into two categories: software as a service and data as a service. Data powers software and software can be delivered over "platform as a service", which will not be discussed here but will be the subject of other articles.

Software as a Service (SaaS) Unlike traditional software, like Word or Lotus 1-2-3, it doesn't come on a floppy disk or CD; it's brought to you over the internet. Google is one example of a Software as a Service; you don't need to install anything on your computer to use it and its functionality is delivered to you over the web. To cite Google in another example, Google Docs is a web service that lets you read and create documents over the Internet rather than having to install anything on your machine.

Data as a Service (DaaS) Rather than saving and accessing data on your local machine or server, DaaS involves the hosting of data on an external web service provider's server. For instance, Postcode Anywhere maintains accurate databases of masses of information, such as valid UK addresses/postcodes and mapping data. This can work for personal data, too. Web services like Hotmail or Gmail, for instance, both host your data - your emails and attachments (Data as a Service) and provide you with email software (Software as a Service). No data or software is hosted on your own server or PC.

What's so great about web services?

With so many benefits, this might actually take some time...

1) No installation - no maintenance - no messing about with updates

Web services are the next generation in software. Software as a Service do not require installation and you always have the latest version. Think of how much time is lost installing, updating and managing software - this is just not the case with a web service. The service provider professionals take care of all of the software management for you. And with Data as a Service, all your data will be up-to-the-minute, fed to you directly from the source.

2) Centralised, lean, responsive

You can run any number of programs off the same pool of data, held on the web service database. This means that once you set up the data you need to manage, you can have several programs - all written in different languages - using it to work. What does this mean practically? It means you can maintain a database of customer records in your San Francisco HQ through your desktop PC running Vista while your London sales manager accesses the details off her Apple laptop. Neither person has any software installed; they just plug into the Internet and get on with the job. And it's just as easy for the developers to make the software as it is for the businesspeople to use it. Development tasks that would take weeks normally can now be polished off in seconds. The software that accesses the data can be either traditional software installed on your machine, or itself Software as a Service brought to you by a SaaS provider.

3) Eminently affordable

Because web services charge you for how much you use the service rather than charging a lump sum just for having the service in the first place, anyone can now have access to the kind of software and datasets that only the biggest players in business could previously afford.

So... what's data as a service again?

Traditionally, you would find data on a book or a CD that was mailed to you. You would then use this data in your business for as long as possible before having to update your dataset.

...and what's so great about data as a service?

Having data stored on a central server, which is constantly updated, makes sense. It's a solution that makes mailing out data on a CD (that's out of date before it even arrives through your letterbox) a thing of the past. Who wants old data? How can you possibly keep up-to-date data using traditional static models? High-speed internet has paved the way for efficient data solutions where your business will always be on top. No more mail shots sent to people who live elsewhere or don't exist and no more out of date information.

These web services sound cool... but what can I actually do with them?

There many, many possible applications for web services. Here are some examples:

In Customer Relations Management, bring up your clients' details at the click of a button with business data management.

In Ecommerce, make sure your customers are providing you with the correct bank details or credit card details with bank account and credit card validation.

In E-marketing, verify your contacts' email addresses to check they're current before sending out marketing materials.

In Haulage, plan a highly optimized route to save costs with multi-vehicle multi drop-off route optimisation software - or use similar software to budget fuel allowances. In this case, both the data (geocoordinates) and software (complex route optimization) are provided as a service. You can still plug this into your applications in a number of ways.

There are many, many applications for these web services; anywhere you could use a traditional installed-on-your-desktop application, or self-hosted data in fact.

Customer Service Software

Customer service software applications and customer service

solutions range from simple to complex. Some businesses have a

greater need for customer service software than others; however,

if you serve customers through your internet business some type

of customer service solution or customer service software is

necessary to keep your customer information organized and

accessible so you can provide your customers with a high level of

customer service that meets their expectations.

Whether or not you need customer service software or a more

advanced customer service solution depends on the unique needs of

your internet-based business.

There are many types of customer service software ranging from

your basic point-of-sale systems to complex customer relationship

management systems. Databases are customer service software

solutions that enable you to store all types of data, including

customer information, which facilitates information management

making customer service data more easily and quickly accessible.

Customer service software and applications that improve

efficiency in regard to customer service are highly desirable

because they enable you to provide customers with quality service

which can help with customer retention and referrals.

Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software is a fabulous

tool for any business. There are several different types of CRM

software as well as alternatives for customizing CRM systems to

meet the unique needs of any business.

CRM customer service and relationship management software is

generally pre-programmed and is suitable for small businesses.

Some customer service software and CRM software can be

customized, though there are sometimes some limitations to the

customization that can be accomplished using customer service

software or CRM software that is pre-programmed.

In such cases, employing the services of a software developer or

computer programmer to design and create customized customer

service software and CRM solutions may be necessary. For

internet-based businesses that are small, home-owned businesses

customer service software is usually sufficient without the need

for extensive programming support.

Some customer service software and CRM options involve monthly

fees for their use while others are a one-time purchase. Some

require special database hosting while others can be installed

and operated from your personal computer or small business

network.

Microsoft has customer service software and CRM software

solutions that enable the integration of customer relationship

management modules for internet businesses. Various solutions and

modules have different features and relatively different costs

associated with them.

One of the viable customer service software packages from

Microsoft is the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 which is available in

a small business edition with a pretty reasonable licensing fee.

It integrates with other Microsoft applications such as Outlook

and Excel for effective customer communications and report

generation.

Some of the modules enable the automation of marketing functions

including organization of leads, campaign management and follow-

up capabilities as well as service scheduling and customization

of various customer service functions and communications.

Salesforce.com is another source for customizable customer

service software and CRM solutions. The customer service software

solutions provided by Salesforce.com are really good solutions

for integrating and automating your sales, marketing, customer

service and support functions.

There are quite a few other customer service software and CRM

solutions that can be used to automate your sales, service,

support, recordkeeping and marketing functions.

When selecting any software solutions for your new internet

business, even customer service software, you should consider

your future needs and plan ahead to ensure the software you

purchase today will meet the needs of your business in the future

in terms of functionality and compatibility with software and

information systems that may need to be added later as your

business grows and demands greater capabilities from your

customer service software and information systems.

Business Plan Software Review: Ultimate Business Planner(tm)

One of the main reasons business owners and entrepreneurs use business plan software is to simplify building their financial models. Even with an explosion in business plan software packages on the market today, "doing the financial projections" is still often cited as the most difficult part of completing a business plan. Yet, software can still simplify financial forecasting.

The question is: Which software?

Ultimate Business Planner has been touted as a dynamic, interactive planning tool that takes the drudgery out of complex, time-consuming financial forecasting and business planning. It combines easy-to-use software functions with a step-by-step approach to create a business plan.

It is designed for those individuals or businesses in need of getting a business plan done fast. The Ultimate Business Planner prides itself on being the fastest and easiest way to write a winning business plan.

Atlas Business Solutions, Inc. (ABS), developer of the business planning technology in QuickBooks® Premier 2005 and the maker of Ultimate Business Planner, is a well-respected and established business software development company. Their products are top rated and are priced moderately.

So, let's check it out...

Step-by-step approach with five manageable sections

The Ultimate Business Planner breaks the business planning process into five manageable sections: Company, Income, Expenses, Interview and Plan.

The first four sections gather information to prepare and complete your financial forecast. Interactive dialogs with plain-English instructions, questions and fill-in the blanks capture information and build your company profile. Income and expense worksheets enable you to define income and expense categories and project monthly amounts with easy to use forecasting functions.

There are three methods you can use to enter your monthly income or expense data: manually or cell-by-cell, automatically - using a combination of the worksheet functions to project amounts for you based on your assumptions, or importing/copy paste - take data from your files if you are using QuickBooks Pro/Premier/Enterprise 2003 (or later) or simply copying and pasting data from an MS Excel worksheet.

The fifth section provides several tools to write a business plan including: a business plan outline to guide you step-by-step in writing your business plan, topic guides and example tabs that explain what you should include in each topic with examples of each, and a powerful, easy to use text editor for entering and editing your text.

Includes help functions, advice and how-to hints to

overcome most business plan obstacles

The package includes many help functions for advice and how-to hints to overcome the many obstacles to writing a successful business plan. For example, refer to the twenty-five industry-specific sample business plans for suggested wording, or to copy-and-paste select phrases or sections directly into your business plan to breakthrough writers block quickly. Or, there are many financial wizards available to calculate loan amounts, interest rates, monthly payments, depreciation, amortization and more.

Complete the sections and

Ultimate Business Planner does the rest

With Ultimate Business Plan, you are free to complete each section in the order you choose. Then, when the sections are complete the Ultimate Business Planner does the rest. It evaluates the financial viability of your business ideas or strategies quickly and easily; creates complete financial statement projections (for up to 36 months) to show to your bankers or other potential investors; and, produces a professional report in ever respect including graphs to highlight the potential of your business plan.

Change scenarios for

intelligent, informed decisions

Changing scenarios is easy with the Ultimate Business Planner. For example, to quickly see how hiring more employees or adding a new product affects your bottom line simply go to period and change the amount. The software will automatically update all the related financial statements, charts and tables. In short, the Ultimate Business Planner allows you to see how your bottom line is affected by unlimited business situations.

What's missing?

Three things I wish the Ultimate Business Planner would do. First, allow users the option to enter historical financial data (an important option if you are an established business). Second, either extend or allow users the option to extend the forecast period to five years (a common time horizon for venture capitalist and equity sponsors). Third, allow users to vary gross margin assumptions on a monthly, quarterly, or annual basis (in version 3.0 material, labor and overhead assumptions remain fixed throughout the entire three-year forecast period).

But don't let these things hold you back from trying the Ultimate Business Planner. You can easily work around them and the time and ease of use in other areas more than offsets these shortcomings.

For example, to include historical financial data, you can export your projections to Excel and then add the needed history directly into MS Excel®. If you want a five-year projection, simply create a new file that begins with the ending balances forecasted in your original three-year plan and do the addition two-year projection in the new file. Then, you can merge the original three-year plan with the extended plan using MS Excel®. If you want to vary the gross margin assumptions over the forecast period, you can create separate product categories for the same product and vary the material, labor and overhead as a percentage of sales for each product category and related period.

Go to the demo...

All direct purchases of the Ultimate Business Planner from ABS are backed by their 90-day unconditional, money-back guarantee (excluding upgrades which are nonrefundable). To help you evaluate whether the Ultimate Business Planner is right for you, Business Plan Secrets Revealed has prepared a section-by-section demonstration that can be viewed at http://www.business-plan-secrets-revealed.com/business-plan-software.html

The Ultimate Business Planner is a pretty simple business planning software to use. It's a quick and useful business planner that produces a well-written and organized business plan. At $99.00, it's worth giving it a shot.
