Leaked HTC Vigor Media Files Help Confirm Specs, Clear-Up Rumors

You are in an Android Post

Our understanding of the HTC Vigor had been shaping-up nicely as of last week; rumors, information gleamed from its FCC paperwork, and the press shots we uncovered were starting to paint a complete picture of the handset. Then we were introduced to a purportedly leaked Verizon screenshot, indicating that the phone would become the Droid Incredible HD, instead, and cast doubt on the phone's supposedly-720p display. Today a host of media files for the Vigor has been distributed online, and there are a few tidbits inside that may help clear up this confusion.

For one, there's the inclusion of wallpaper images at 1440 x 1280, or exactly two 720p screens - not something we'd expect added to a phone with only a WVGA display. That gives us some peace of mind, since we're really excited about all the 720p displays that are about to hit the smartphone market. The phone's LTE capabilities were essentially a lock, having been confirmed in FCC documentation, but a boot logo here also confirms the feature, along with the Beats audio partnership.

Furthermore, the boot animations don't reinforce the idea that the Vigor could arrive as the Droid Incredible HD, without the appearance of an iconic Droid "red eye".

You can check out all the files yourself by following the source link below.

HTC Vigor Arriving As Droid Incredible HD On October 13?

You are in an Android Post

When we see inconsistencies in leaked documents that cross our path, our Spidey sense goes all a-tingling ? fake or mistake? People make typos, and internal documents not meant for public consumption aren't going to get the same level of scrutiny as a press release might (not that we haven't seen our share of typos there). Then again, what could be a copy-and-paste gaffe might just as easily point to a shoddy hoax job. It's with this balancing act on our mind that we turn to the latest rumor to pop up, that the HTC Vigor will be coming to Verizon as the Droid Incredible HD on October 13.

While much of the screenshot at the source of this information looks legit enough, there's a troubling contradiction where two subsequent bullet points describe the smartphone's screen as first WVGA, and then the 720p HD we were expecting; it can't very well be both.

We were starting to think Vigor would be the phone's retail name, but there's some logic to the Incredible HD. After all, we've also heard that the Vigor would become the Thunderbolt 2, and the original Thunderbolt was first on our radar as the Incredible HD.

For now, this rumor is definitely interesting, and we'll be keeping an eye on the thirteenth, but given the circumstances, we'll wait for something more in the way of confirmation before we start accepting it.

Radio Shack Leak Offers New Launch Dates: Vigor, Illusion, Strato

You are in an Android Post

Earlier today, we heard a rumor that the HTC Vigor might end up arriving on October 13 as the Droid Incredible HD. The source behind that info was a little sketchy, though, so we've been looking for some way to confirm the information provided. Some new data has now arrived, but it sadly doesn't help to clarify the situation very much.

A leaked launch checklist for Radio Shack stores shows the phone, as the HTC Vigor, set to kick-off its direct-fill sales on October 20. It wouldn't be that surprising to see a slight delay between the carrier's and a retailer's launch, but when you combine that with the use of "Vigor" here instead of "Incredible HD", it just creates more questions. Again, on its own it's not that odd to see confusion over device names, but we're walking into this one with our guard already up.

Joining the Vigor on the list, Samsung's Illusion is marked as arriving on October 20 as well, and the Samsung Stratosphere is tipped for earlier in the month on October 6. No pricing information for any of these handsets was included with the leaked dates.

HTC Vigor: First Press Shot

You are in an Android Post

With a rumored dual-core 1.5GHz processor, LTE compatibility, and amazing 720x1280 HD display, the Gingerbread-powered HTC Vigor promises to be one of the most powerful smartphones of all time when it hits Verizon alongside the HTC Rhyme/Bliss. It's also said to offer Beats Audio technology, though the first in-the-wild shots didn't portray the Beats logo.

Vigor could launch as early as HTC's September 20th NYC event, although there are upcoming candidates for each carrier that could also be the focus (Ruby, Holiday, Kingdom). While several sources claim that the handset will go by Thunderbolt 2 at retail, we're seeing evidence that Vigor will in fact be the final branding.

We can't help but get excited at what might well be the first HD cellphone, and you probably should be too.
