Nokia's First Windows Phone To Ship In One Month? [Update]

The first Nokia Windows Phone -- we just assume it will be the SeaRay but we've heard names like Nokia 703 and 800 too -- is going to ship in the middle of month October, according to recent reports. We initially heard that Nokia is planning a Europe-only launch limited to six countries this year and one month from now allegedly seems to be the date.

The American market will get its Nokia Windows Phone treat around March 2012 and Australia doesn't seem to be in luck either, as Q1 2012 is the timeframe Nokia made public.

Of course, the phone shipping in Europe mid-October is still just a rumor as we've heard nothing official from Nokia. We didn't even hear anything official from Microsoft either, but a Mango launch announcement is expected really soon (tomorrow, according to some rumors).

Update: Nokia tweeted the following: "We cannot confirm local availability but the 1st Nokia w/ WP devices will ship in Q4 and with volumes in 2012". Corroborate that with rumors of a Europe-only launch in 2011 and Q1 for U.S. and Australia and we get a cleared image.

U.S. Cellular Getting Motorola Electrify (Photon 4G) This Month

We first learned of the Motorola Photon 4G, and all its angular lines, when the manufacturer announced late last spring that the Android smartphone would be making an eventual appearance on Sprint. Sure enough, by the end of July, the Photon was upon us. While the Photon continues to have a home at Sprint, its twin is about to arrive at U.S. Cellular, as the Motorola Electrify.

The name change aside, the Electrify is the same ol' Photon 4G we're familiar with. That means it will keep the 4.3-inch qHD display (and unfortunate PenTile arrangement), same dual-core 1GHz Tegra 2 processor, and the 16GB internal flash storage of the Photon (expandable via microSD). Similarly, you can still hook the phone up to Motorola's WebTop accessories to do some real web browsing on a full-sized display.

Sprint launched the Photon 4G at around $200 on-contract, and that's the same way U.S. Cellular is kicking-off its own sales of the smartphone. If a release date has been set, U.S. Cellular is keeping it on the hush-hush for now, only offering that the Electrify will come to carrier "later this month".

AT&T Adding Sony Ericsson Xperia Play 4G To Its Stable This Month

Earlier this summer, AT&T revealed that the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, the "PlayStation phone" with a slide-out gamepad instead of a QWERTY keyboard, would be finding a home with the carrier. So far, Android gamers in the States have only had the option of using the Xperia Play on Verizon. Come September 18, AT&T will join the fray with the Xperia Play 4G.

Besides the switch to a GSM radio, as in the international version of the smartphone, there's nothing changed from the Verizon edition. That means having a single-core 1GHz Snapdragon, Adreno 205 graphics, 512MB of RAM, and a four-inch FWVGA display.

AT&T is trying to make its Xperia Play stand out by offering the phone in a "stealth blue" shade, throwing in a Sony Ericsson Multimedia Dock and music cable, and loading the phone with some games to get you started; Dungeon Defenders Second Wave, Asphalt 6 Adrenaline, Star Battalion, Madden NFL 11, The Sims 3, Tower Bloxx: My City, and Crash Bandicoot make the cut.

When the Xperia Play 4G arrives on the eighteenth, you'll be able to pick it up for about $50 on-contract.

Sprint Delaying BlackBerry Curve 9350 Release For Another Month?

Sprint had announced that it would be offering its subscribers access to RIM's new BlackBerry Curve 9350, beginning September 9. With that date practically on top of us, we've heard a new rumor that the carrier may have to postpone its launch plans, and reschedule the Curve's debut for October 12.

While it's certainly better than an open-ended delay, an extra month is still quite the length of time to wait for the phone. This information comes courtesy of an anonymous source, who reported news of the delay being disseminated amongst Sprint employees.

We wonder if there's some sort of stock problem, which means we might expect to see similar delays pop up with the other new Curve models, if the issue is confined to just the CDMA 9350, or if this is a strategic move on Sprint's part and has nothing to do with any inventory issues.

Considering that Sprint put out a formal press release announcing the Curve 9350's release date, we'd think it would make an official statement regarding the delay, assuming this rumor is true. If that's the case, Sprint had better speak up fast.
