LG Introduces True HD IPS Display, Tops AMOLED Says Report

You might remember the recently launched (in Korea) LG Optimus LTE, if not for the fast network speeds but because of that 4.5-inch display with 720 x 1280 resolution. LG today introduced a new standard in mobile display unveiling the "True HD IPS" screen.

Made in collaboration with its sister company, LG Display, the True HD IPS display "offers advanced resolution, brightness and clarity and shows colors in their most natural tones, as they were meant to be seen." Intertek -- an international product testing and certification agency -- recently published a report according to which IPS technology was superior to AMOLED when it comes to color accuracy, brightness, battery efficiency and performance.

The LG True IPS HD display brings 1280 x 720 HD resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio, sharper and crisper text thanks to 329 ppi, true natural colors with automatic color adjustment.

The official Press Release doesn't make an exact indication as per which AMOLED and IPS screens were tested but Intertek used the LG True IPS HD screen in comparison with Samsung's state-of-the art Super AMOLED Plus screen. The test found that the IPS screen had three times more color accuracy than the AMOLED one and consumed 624mW of power compared to 1,130mw on AMOLED. Now if only these excellent IPS screens (also the one on the iPhone 4) could offer real/true blacks like Super AMOLEDs...

iPhone 5, 4G Cases Show Up At AT&T Resellers: Report

You are in an iPhone Post

Apple is going to announce the iPhone 5 on October 4 as its flagship phone, according to recent rumors, most probably together with the iPhone 4S or 4+ refresh of the current model, with bumped specs. There have already been online sightings of iPhone 5 and 4S cases, but this time they show up in AT&T reseller inventories.

Checking out the image above you'll see six alleged iPhone 5 cases listed. They appear to be Case-Mate Barely There cases and they are listed in the AT&T reseller point-of-sale system. Why is this different than the other case leaks? Well, case-makers can gamble and bet on the iPhone 5's design but this time we're talking about AT&T resellers, retail systems that are already stocked up on the accessories.

On a side-note, there's an iPhone 4G on the top of the list. If that's not a typo, then the iPhone 4S or 4+ might very well be named the iPhone 4G and AT&T appears to be preparing to carry them both.

Apple to Announce iPhone 5 on October 4: Report

You are in an iPhone Post

The moment we've been all waiting for is looking to be going down on October 4. According to "sources familiar to the matter", Apple is going to hold a media event on October 4, where we expect the company to unveil its next iPhone(s).

While, of course, Apple can change the date anytime, AllThingsD is rather certain that October 4 is the day to circle in your calendar using a red pencil. The announced phone will allegedly be available weeks after the event, which would make it an October-announced-October-available iPhone. The report goes on saying Apple's new CEO, Tim Cook, will be most probably the one showing the phone(s) off.

Meanwhile, there are reports of fresh troubles in Greece.

Journalist Matina Stevis -- who's been very reliable on all matters Greece -- says on Twitter that there's a "hole" of some sort in the Greek medium-term fiscal plan, meaning (presumably) that it doesn't cut as much as originally promised.

The next few days are going to be a bear for Greece watchers, as the austerity vote draws near (it's currently scheduled for next week). It's assumed that it will be tougher than the vote yesterday, and it's also totally crucial.
