Answering to the above report, Wintek declared that there will be no delays for either of its products. "Sources" indicated that the defect is "delayed bubble" which is "difficult to avoid during panel production, particularly when the defect is not detected during the process of laminating touch panels, and only later found during assembly".
Regardless of the alleged issues, we're not expecting the iPhone 5 to be available right away, on October 4 (if the event will even take place on that day). The phone will likely ship a tad later (a week or too after the announcement) so we'll just have to wait and see what Tim Cook tells us on stage.
