LG Optimus LTE (LU6200) Pictured Once Again

You are in an Android Post

Just a couple of days ago we could take a look at the LG Optimus LTE (aka LG LU6200) which was pictured in the wild and now we have a couple of more images starring the Korean manufacturer's LTE powerhouse.

The phone is reportedly operating on Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread but the main selling point of the phone is its 4.5-inch AH-IPS LCD with HD resolution (720 x 1280), along with LTE support. The processor is not to be overlooked either as it clocks at 1.5GHz on two cores, being a Snapdragon chip. The phone is expected to hit Korea this month and we can't wait for LG to make it available in the U.S. and internationally.

HTC Runnymede Retail Branding Revealed?

You are in an Android Post

The HTC Runnymede will launch as the HTC Sensation XL, according to a reliable source, and not the HTC Bass, as previously rumored. It will allegedly come in two Beats Audio-themed bundles: one with iBeats earbuds and another, special, edition containing over-the-ear Beats Solo headphones.

The supposed branding here is somewhat interesting because, unlike the Sensation XE, Runnymede's specs differ significantly from the original Sensation's: its rumored single-core, 1.5GHz processor and 4.7-inch screen make it sound more akin to the HTC Titan Windows Phone than the dual-core, 4.3-inch Sensation and Sensation XE.

We'd expect Sensation XL/Runnymede to launch at HTC's October 7th event, alongside Explorer/Pico and perhaps even Vigor and Ruby.

Verizon Joining AT&T With September 27 Mango?

You are in a Windows Phone Post

Earlier today, we heard that AT&T would start pushing out Mango updates to its customers' Windows phone 7 handsets beginning next Tuesday, September 27. Though it's far from confirmed, there's a chance that Verizon could follow suit and get its update started on the very same day.

This tidbit comes courtesy of an online chat log with a Verizon representative. We're well-aware how unreliable such sources can be at times, so treat this rumor with the appropriate level of skepticism.

The chat log shows a user in the midst of a Windows Phone 7 discussion with a Verizon rep. The user asks, "do you know if it will be updated for Verizon same day as other carriers (Sept 27, i believe?)", to which the rep simply responds, "Yes, it will."

The log makes it look as if the user was in the process of asking about ordering a Trophy, so there's the very real possibility that an unscrupulous rep was saying anything necessary to close the deal. We'd like to think we're not that cynical, though, so we'll give this the benefit of the doubt until we hear anything else from Verizon either confirming or denying the news.

Google HTC Nexus One Gets Android 2.3.6 Update

You are in an Android Post

The Google Nexus One managed to stay up-to-date all this time mainly because Mountain View managed to keep its promise and continuously push out refreshes as they were stable. The phone recently got its Android 2.3.6 update.

The Nexus One Android 2.3.6 build is GRK39F and, from the description, it contains "important bug fixes and security patches". What you need to do in order to apply is to download the ROM file from the source link and then go through the update process (you most probably know by now). Let us know if you find anything out of the ordinary in the new ROM.

Dell Dishes Out News Of Venue Pro Mango Updates

You are in a Windows Phone Post

Microsoft finally threw all you Windows Phone users, waiting for news about when to expect your Mango updates, a bone this week, officially confirming that Mango would get here "in the next week or two". For information on when progress was being made for individual carriers, the company refers users to its "Where's my phone update?" page, but that's yet to reflect the distribution of Mango. For more detail, we'll have to turn to the manufacturers themselves. Dell, for one, spilled the beans on its update plans earlier today.

If you've got a fully-unlocked Dell Venue Pro, you'll have no issues getting your Mango update, on its way "later this fall"; no surprise there. If you got your DVP through T-Mobile (or Cincinnati Bell Wireless), it's pretty much the same story; it won't definitely arrive at the same time as the unlocked update, but Dell will still be making sure users get it.

The picture's less clear with DVPs on AT&T. For whatever reason, Dell is unable to comment on the upgrade situation with those smartphones currently. It promises to provide that news once it's able to confirm things, but it's just a bit odd to have that kind of uncertainty lingering so close to Mango's release.

A5 Chip Spotted On iPhone 5 Logic Board?

You are in an iPhone Post

Last month, a series of pictures was released online depicting what appeared to be the motherboard for a next-gen iPhone. They looked legit enough, but we weren't sure if they were intended for something more like the iPhone 4s or the iPhone 5, and couldn't make out enough detail to verify that Apple would be using dual-core A5 processors, as in the iPad 2. Now some new imagery has surfaced that still leaves us with some questions about the hardware, but finally gives us a good luck at that A5 we were expecting.

The layout of components shown here seems to match the hardware we looked at earlier, and what's visible on the battery here corresponds with those revealed in August. Still, there are some lingering questions about this picture's integrity; some question the quality of the A5 logo, wondering if this might be an elaborate counterfeit. There's also the issue that the components on the left depict an earlier version of the white iPhone's construction, before Apple had satisfied itself with the quality of that version's manufacture. Maybe these pictures are from much earlier in the development process than we were assuming? We'll learn if they check out soon enough, with the next iPhone expected to arrive within a month.

Samsung Holding Unpacked Event At Next Month's CTIA

You are in a Smartphone News Post

Samsung has already unveiled the Galaxy Note at the beginning of this month in Berlin, with the occasion of IFA but the company is preparing for another Unpacked event, this time at October's CTIA Enterprise and Applications show in San Diego.

What could Samsung unveil at the event? Well, it could be an American launch for the Galaxy Note or Samsung might as well uncover the Nexus Prime (or Galaxy Nexus as it is being often referred to). It also could be an official unveiling of the Focus S and/or the Focus Flash Windows Phones but we'll make sure to let you know more as we find out.

Android 2.3.5 ROM for Samsung Galaxy S II Leaks

You are in an Android Post

The Samsung Galaxy S II is still THE Android phone of the moment (at least until one of those HD screen-enabled beasts are released) and the manufacturer is trying to maintain the phone up to date as much as possible.

The latest leak represents Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread for the Samsung Galaxy S II. The firmware version is I9100XXKI3, which translates to European version 3, dated September 15. For those of you who can't wait for the update to hit your devices via official channels, head over to the source link and grab the update (of course, acknowledging the risks involved).

HTC Runnymede Shows Off Piano White and Beats Audio on Video

You are in an Android Post

The Runnymede is expected to have a 1.5GHz single-core processor, 4.7-inch WVGA display, 768MB of RAM, 16GB of storage, eight-megapixel main camera, and 1.3-megapixel webcam. Will probably run Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread with HTC Sense 3.5 on top of it and it is rumored to be launched as the HTC Bass.

Check out the video below to see how the device looks! So far, the piano shining white caught our attention on the front of the phone and we have to admit it appeals more than the matte one on the HTC ChaCha or Radar. Of course, as you'd expect from a Beats-phone, it sports the Beats Audio logo on the back, pretty much like the Sensation XE. Let us know if you like what you see!

Android Vulnerability Allows Stealth Malware Installation

You are in an Android Post

Reports continue to come in on the dark side of the Android platform: malware and vulnerabilities. According to The Register, two serious Android security vulnerabilities were reported more than a month ago and are still unpatched.

The first is a "permission-escalation vulnerability" that enables an application to install other applications without the user being warned or prompted for consent. Apparently, all Android users are affected. The "Linux kernel privilege escalation" will enable an infected application to gain privileges and full control over a device. Google declined to comment on any of the two aforementioned vulnerabilities but if you want to know more about the flaws, check out the video below:

LG LU6200 Spotted In The Wild, Shows Off 720p HD Display

You are in an Android Post

The LG LU6200 we've been hearing about last week, with its 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon CPU and LTE support has been spotted in the wild, showing off that 720p HD display it has.

As you can see, the pictures are not very telling about the images the screen reproduces. On paper though, the display is an AH-IPS LCD one with HD resolution of 720 x 1280. With its 4.5-inches in diagonal, it accounts for a 329ppi density, adding to the other high-end internals, such as an eight-megapixel main camera, a 1.3-megapixel front-facer, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage, plus the usual suspects like DLNA, MHL, and WiFi Direct.

iPhone 5, 4G Cases Show Up At AT&T Resellers: Report

You are in an iPhone Post

Apple is going to announce the iPhone 5 on October 4 as its flagship phone, according to recent rumors, most probably together with the iPhone 4S or 4+ refresh of the current model, with bumped specs. There have already been online sightings of iPhone 5 and 4S cases, but this time they show up in AT&T reseller inventories.

Checking out the image above you'll see six alleged iPhone 5 cases listed. They appear to be Case-Mate Barely There cases and they are listed in the AT&T reseller point-of-sale system. Why is this different than the other case leaks? Well, case-makers can gamble and bet on the iPhone 5's design but this time we're talking about AT&T resellers, retail systems that are already stocked up on the accessories.

On a side-note, there's an iPhone 4G on the top of the list. If that's not a typo, then the iPhone 4S or 4+ might very well be named the iPhone 4G and AT&T appears to be preparing to carry them both.

iPhone 5 Reportedly Delayed Due To Defect in Touch Panels

You are in an iPhone Post

According to a DigiTimes report, the iPhone 5 will be delayed due to some defects in the touch panels manufactured by Wintek. According to previous reports, Apple is supposed to launch its next flagship on October 4 but initial shipment targets might not be met due to the panel issues.

Many rumors come from "the supply chain" via DigiTimes and it's up to you to believe them or not. Answering to the above report, Wintek declared that there will be no delays for either of its products. "Sources" indicated that the defect is "delayed bubble" which is "difficult to avoid during panel production, particularly when the defect is not detected during the process of laminating touch panels, and only later found during assembly".

Regardless of the alleged issues, we're not expecting the iPhone 5 to be available right away, on October 4 (if the event will even take place on that day). The phone will likely ship a tad later (a week or too after the announcement) so we'll just have to wait and see what Tim Cook tells us on stage.

AT&T Samsung Infuse 4G Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread ROM Leaked

You are in an Android Post

The Samsung-made AT&T Infuse 4G was supposed to get its Gingerbread treat since mid-August but so far there was only word of a maintenance update -- rumored to be a pre-Gingerbread update.

An Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread ROM has been leaked for the device and it is build I997UCKI4. It might be a good indication that the official update is not far out but if you just can't wait for it to be pushed to your phone, give the leak a try (but insert unofficial ROM update warning here).

Samsung Focus S Passes FCC, Mango a Week Away & Dell Leaving?

You are in a Windows Phone Post

In today?s show we begin by talking about the recent confirmation we received from the Windows Phone blog regarding Mango and it?s release date within either next week or the following. We also go through the Samsung Focus S and how it already received FCC approval. We talk about the reasons why Windows Phone 7 doesn?t support dual-core processors, and why that?s still not an issue any of us should worry about. We breeze through Windows 8 and how it seems to support more than the Metro UI with a phone call feature, and details on when we might get the WhatsApp messenger many of us have been waiting for. We end the Good section by going through some recent awards that Windows Phone 7 has received thanks to its innovative design.

In the bad section we cover the sad news about Dell probably dropping Windows Phone 7 in the future, and why we think the rumors hold water.

All this and more after the break.

Could Nokia's Sea Ray Be Delayed Until 2012?

You are in a Windows Phone Post

When is Nokia's Sea Ray WP7 smartphone going to finally arrive? We looked into some of the latest news and rumors surrounding the handset's release earlier this month, and at that point it seemed like we'd see a limited European release before the end of the year, with wider global distribution following in 2012. Now we've run across a new rumor that says we might have to wait until 2012 for even the European release of the Sea Ray.

The Street's Scott Moritz presents this as an unconfirmed rumor from an unnamed source, citing delays in the phone's release schedule. According to him, they would mean Nokia would wouldn't get the Sea Ray out anywhere in 2011. We'll have to wait and see if any evidence arrives supporting his claims, but are they at least plausible?

Last week, Nokia tweeted that its first WP7 smartphones would most assuredly be out sometime in 2011. If Moritz is right, there's the possibility that problems have crept up in the past week, or the chance that the Sea Ray will not be the first Nokia WP7 device. We mentioned this possibility earlier, since there are a couple other potential WP7 phones from Nokia that we've heard about, and while Moritz specifically talks about the Sea Ray, Nokia did not identify the model mentioned in its confirmation (though Moritz seems to believe the Sea Ray will, in fact, be the first Nokia WP7 model). It might seem more likely that Moritz got some bad information, but there's a chance he could be onto something here.

Update: Nokia is sticking to its guns, reiterating its plans for a WP7 release this year.

Samsung Galaxy Note Expected Late November In the U.K.

Our friends over at Clove just updated on the Samsung Galaxy Note availability: it looks like the smartphone (if that's what you call this beast) will be in stock late November. The price is not yet confirmed but is believed to be around the pre-order advertised price of ?500 ($780) unlocked.

Scoring 3,624 in Quadrant, the Galaxy Note, which we met in person at the iFA, was only rumored to land in the U.K. at the beginning of next year.

With a 5.3-inch Super AMOLED HD screen of 800 x 1280 resolution, the Galaxy Note features a 1.4GHz dual-core Exynos processor, 16 GB Internal Storage, eight-megapixel main camera, two-megapixel webcam plus the usual, and a stylus...

First Mango Phone Up For Sale In Europe Is Not What You Think

You are in a Windows Phone Post

Japan got its first taste of Mango with the release of the Fujitsu-Toshiba IS12T, but how will Mango be revealed to the rest of the world's markets? Instead of that sort of single-device launch, will we see a glut of WP7.5 handsets released at once? It may not be the grand launch we were hoping for, but it looks like Europe has actually gotten its first Mango device already, and it's definitely not what we expected.

Instead of a new built-for-Mango-from-the-ground-up smartphone, the first one that's being sold with Mango installed in Europe turns out to be our old friend the HTC Mozart. Sure, it's just the old Mozart with new software, but it's still the region's first taste of Mango at retail. Right now the updated Mozart is apparently only being sold in Russia, but perhaps we'll see that spread to the rest of eastern Europe shortly.

The Mozart may be technically first, but we think we'll keep the clock running and wait to see just which new Windows Phone handset, part of the new wave of models coming out, makes it to Europe first.

Leaked HTC Vigor Media Files Help Confirm Specs, Clear-Up Rumors

You are in an Android Post

Our understanding of the HTC Vigor had been shaping-up nicely as of last week; rumors, information gleamed from its FCC paperwork, and the press shots we uncovered were starting to paint a complete picture of the handset. Then we were introduced to a purportedly leaked Verizon screenshot, indicating that the phone would become the Droid Incredible HD, instead, and cast doubt on the phone's supposedly-720p display. Today a host of media files for the Vigor has been distributed online, and there are a few tidbits inside that may help clear up this confusion.

For one, there's the inclusion of wallpaper images at 1440 x 1280, or exactly two 720p screens - not something we'd expect added to a phone with only a WVGA display. That gives us some peace of mind, since we're really excited about all the 720p displays that are about to hit the smartphone market. The phone's LTE capabilities were essentially a lock, having been confirmed in FCC documentation, but a boot logo here also confirms the feature, along with the Beats audio partnership.

Furthermore, the boot animations don't reinforce the idea that the Vigor could arrive as the Droid Incredible HD, without the appearance of an iconic Droid "red eye".

You can check out all the files yourself by following the source link below.

WhatsApp Finally Hitting Windows Phone Marketplace Within 24H

You are in a Windows Phone Post

It's been quite a journey for the long anticipated WhatsApp Windows Phone client, from the early day rumors, leaks and hints (a tweet about mangos, a job posting and more recently, a teaser image) to a private beta in the Marketplace more recently.

Being contacted for a spot on the private beta team, the WhatsApp developers have issued the following response: "Thanks for your message and interest. We should be releasing a public version to the Marketplace within the next 24 hours, so I don?t think there is much point in sending you a link to the closed beta group". That being said, check often with your Marketplace over the weekend if you are (long) waiting for the WhatsApp client.
